Spring Cleaning!

Holy cow y’all, has it honestly been almost two years since my last post! Good gravy! It’s been a truly enriching journey the past few years and I’m actually quite glad that I stepped off the quilt radar for a while.

Let me give you the Cliff’s Notes since the last time we’ve talked:

I moved back to Austin in late 2015 and fell head over heels in love with a guy who is incidentally named Austin, too! He is an artist as well, tattoos being his medium, and is so cool and supportive about my quilt career. We found out on New Years Day 2016 that we were having a baby! In late August we welcomed our sweet Mirabelle Darling Rose to the world and it’s been a crazy ride ever since!

I decided when we were pregnant with MiMi that I wanted to start selling fabric again. I’ve been missing my store for a long time and wanting to resurrect it. Austin and I moved to Corpus Christi last year to have more family near us while we had the baby, and I found a sweeeeeet studio space. Two doors down, Austin opened up a tattoo shop right before the baby was born and it’s been super fun being just a few doors down! I started fulfilling web orders for Mom for Villa Rosa Designs in the hopes of taking over her fabric inventory. She’s been wanting to get out of the fabric department for a while, and it seemed like perfect timing for everyone.

Even though I’ve had the space since last June, it’s basically been a bunch of bolts stuck in freight boxes. We decided to open this summer in time for Row By Row, so I knew a serious spring cleaning event was in order!

First, Austin’s awesome Uncle Mike decided to help out and helped me build custom bolt shelves for the color wall. Austin’s cousin Cassie is a quilter, so they speak my language! Aren’t my shelves fabulous! Here’s my new Kaffe wall.

I acquired this next series of shelves from a quilt shop in McKinney that was closing. They were custom built for fabric and fat quarters! I stained them a pretty dark grey that made them look more rustic. These will hold new full collections.

Uncle Mike is really the best, let me tell you- he actually custom built this cash wrap area for me! It is EVERYTHING I wanted my cutting table/cash wrap to be, complete with the aluminum siding!!

I got excited, so I put up all my little scissors and impulse buys! I’m dying to see it in action.

I needed a color wall, too, and there was yet another shop closing here in town (they’re dropping like flies!), so I picked up some of the large 3-shelf units to build a color wall. It’s not quite finished yet, but it’s coming along! IMG_0105

I haven’t gotten it completely retail-ready yet, and there’s still a long ways to go! The last little area that needs to be finished is the clearance area. I’m telling y’all, I have so much fabric in here still in freight boxes, and a long ways to go, but so far, so good.

Why yes, I do feel like a crazy hoarder, if that’s what you were thinking!!

All in all, I’m so pleased with our progress and I know in the next month we are going to rock the house! I cannot wait to open up our studio and meet all of my new friends here!

If you’d like to see what my other buddies are up to, here’s a list of the spring cleaning hop to help get our mojo going on your own spring cleaning:

Getting things done but not happy about the sit. !! You are my inspiration today! But, gotta go in ta work at 1 – off tomorrow – may the spring cleaning begin! Hope Elvis is OK – say high for me!

  2. Thank you so much Jessica.  I have missed your blog!!!Ricardo is still quilting, but not as much as before.  But the ones he quilts keep winning ribbons. I could use your help, I need a website, and a graphic designer. any suggestions?  You? Thanks so much, miss you Sherry Mccarty.

  3. With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any
problems of plagorism or copyright violation? My blog has
a lot of unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without
my agreement. Do you know any solutions to help reduce
content from being stolen? I’d certainly appreciate it.
